What happened to the Student Organizations Calendar that was on Angel?

As of July 25, 2011, the Angel calendar has been replaced by the Outlook Student Organizations Calendar.

What is the Student Organizations Calendar?

The Student Organizations Calendar is primarily for posting Student Organizations events. Other important IUSM events may appear on the calendar also.

The intention is to replicate the notices that go to MD2B-EVENTS-L. This will facilitate organizational and individual planning by graphically depicting time conflicts as only calendars can do.

Who can post to the Student Organizations Calendar?

All IUSM students have posting access to the Outlook Student Organizations Calendar. Events that are posted to the listserv must also be posted to the calendar. If you are a student leader and have sending access to MD2B-EVENTS-L, be sure to post the content of your email to the Student Organizations Calendar. It is quick and easy to copy and paste to the calendar.

Don't overlook this essential part of your communication strategy. Under-utilized calendars can be misleading! If you need help, please contact mgray@iupui.edu. (If your event is not intended for all medical students, try to indicate the audience in the event title.)

How can I connect and/or post to the Student Organizations Calendar?

If you use Outlook Web Access, rather than the desktop client, please follow these instructions:
Open Outlook in your web browser and click on the calendar icon at the bottom of the left panel. Now you should be in the calendar view.
At the top, click on Share -> Add calendar…
Select “Calendar from your organization” and type in the box: IUSM Student Orgs Cal
Click OK.

If you use the MS Office Outlook client, follow these instructions:
Open your Outlook client and click on the Calendar bar in the left panel.
Click on “Open a Shared Calendar…” and supply the name: IUSM Student Orgs Cal.
You will see the student orgs calendar beside your own calendar. You can overlay your own calendar with the orgs calendar by clicking on the left arrow on the class calendar’s tab. To undo the overlay, click again on the arrow, which will be pointing right now. (Overlay does not work in Outlook Web Access. Luckily, MS Office Outlook client is a part of MS Office, which is available from IUWare.)

Is there an online version of the Student Orgs Calendar for quick viewing and printing?

For a quick online view or to print the Student Organizations calendar, go to http://student.medicine.iu.edu/Calendars/StudentOrgsCalendar.htm

Can I sync with my Google calendar?

The web view and print calendar pages have Google versions of the MS1 Indy, MS2 Indy, and Student Orgs calendars embedded. You can add any of them to your Gmail calendars by clicking the "+Google calendar" button at the bottom right of the calendar.

For more about syncing, see Getting started with Google Calendar Sync.
