CLINICAL
NEUROSURGERY |

|
Course Director: Other Faculty: |
Description: Students on this clinical neurosurgery elective will work with the Indianapolis Neurosurgical Group at Methodist Hospital. Because the neurosurgical service is extremely large and busy, there is an opportunity to be involved with the management of head and spine injuries and other neurological emergencies such as brain aneurysms causing subarachnoid hemorrhage, brain tumors, and spinal cord disorders. In addition there is exposure to the more common radiculopathies and neuropathy. The rotation is ideal for students with career goals in the neurosciences, emergency medicine, critical care, radiology and rehabilitation, but any student wanting to learn more about the nervous system would benefit. The student is not required to take night call but may do so if desired. Reading material and access to a complete neurological library is provided. Students will have the opportunity to observe the action of the largest private neurosurgical group in the US- 17 neurosurgeons and 2 interventional neuroradiologists. Patients include brain and spine trauma, subarachnoid hemorrhage, brain tumors, stereotactic operations, spinal surgery, pediatric neurosurgery, and much more. Lecture, conferences, and opportunity to participate in surgery. Also much interaction with neurology. Any student wanting to drop or add this elective after the initial computer scheduling should contact Mia Mimms at 962-3369 or mmimms@clarian.org. |
