PLASTIC SURGERY
Guidelines for Elective Programs and Residency Training

ELECTIVE LIST

Drs. Michael Sadove, Barry Eppley, Rajiv Sood, Robert Havlik, and Jeffrey Wagner are available for counseling third year medical students regarding plastic surgery electives. As noted in the listing that follows, these electives vary in experience offered to the students. The burn Fellowship and the plastic surgery assignment at University Hospital are designed to give the student experience comparable to that of a first year resident in surgery.

The plastic surgery residency is of two (2) years duration. Prerequisite training varies from three (3) to five (5) years of general surgery or its equivalent. Should a student be interested in taking his general surgery training at Indiana University, followed by a residency in plastic surgery, he is encouraged to make these plans known to the Chairman of the Department of Surgery and to me, preferably sometime between July and October of his senior year. A university general surgery program is usually superior to a non-university program when one is considering general surgery as prerequisite training for plastic surgery.
