The student will be assigned to the inpatient ward/consult service and attend Methodist outpatient neurology clinics. The participant will attend the Methodist neuroscience lecture series, neurology grand rounds, neuropathology and neuroradiology teaching conferences. Interested individuals may wish to spend time in the neurodiagnostic lab. In addition, opportunities to participate in ongoing clinical research are available. This elective will provide the individual with a sound fundamental basis in clinical neurology and is recommended for those interested in pursuing careers in neurology, internal medicine or subspecialties. PRIVATE PRACTICE IN
CLINICAL NEUROLOGY |
Course Director: Other Faculty:
This elective does not participate in the initial senior match. Description: There is little formal teaching in this rotation, but students will see many patients with a variety of neurologic disorders. The pace is fast, but there is ample time for reading. Students are also encouraged to attend daily noon conferences in Internal Medicine and to attend a weekly neuroradiology conference. In the office students observe the neurologic history and exam by the attending neurologist. However, consultations in the hospital are initially seen by the student and presented to the staff. There is ample opportunity to observe EEG and EMG/NCV tests and their interpretations. Students will be quite proficient in performing a neurologic exam, as well as appropriate neurodiagnostic work-up on patients by the end of the rotation. |
