Eligibility

Any student currently enrolled at a LCME accredited U.S. School of Medicine or U.S. Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine School who has completed, or will have completed, his/her clinical clerkship training before starting an elective, is eligible to apply for guest student elective study at the Indiana University School of Medicine. Generally, a qualified applicant will be limited to three months of elective study.

Application Procedures

Seven items are required to complete the application process. Processing of your request will be delayed if these seven items are not enclosed with your application.

The completed application is due no later than eight (8) weeks prior to the start of an elective. NO exceptions will be made. See IUSM Scheduling Procedures.

Approval of an application will be based on the following guidelines:

Upon receipt of the Course Administrator's approval, the Dean's Office will send a notice of tentative acceptance to the student outlining his/her appointment for the first day. Written acceptance from the student is required in order to confirm the elective.

To minimize inconvenience to instructors and other students, all cancellations of approved electives are to be received no later than three (3) weeks prior to the start of the elective.
