What is the email address for Listserv at IUPUI?

For emailing a listserv, it is listname@iupui.edu, but listname@listserv.iupui.edu also works.

To send a listserv request, such as subscribe, use listserv@listserv.iupui.edu.

(Listserv commands are not case-sensitive.)

How do I send an email to my class?

The class officers act as moderators for each class listserv. To request that an announcement be sent to your class, contact your class officers. Specify whether the announcement should go to Indianapolis only, the Regional Centers only, or all students in your class year.

How can I target my email to the proper audience?

Targeting is now required for class listservs and the new events listserv. Without a target designation, your email will not be delivered. To email Indianapolis students only, put “IN:” at the beginning of the subject line — for example IN: New study group!. To email the Regional Centers excluding Indianapolis, include “CN:” at the beginning of the subject line — for example CN: New study group!. You must separate multiple designations with commas and end the list with a colon.

Targeting Campuses — New Functionality!

Each regional center now has its own two-letter designation:
BL,EV,FW,NW,LA,MU,SB,TH. In addition, IN is Indianapolis and CN (an abbreviation for "Centers") is a short-hand way to include all regional campus.

These designations can be applied to each of the class listservs and to the super-lists — MD2B and MD2B-EVENTS-L. If you wanted to send an email to students at Bloomington, you would begin your subject line with BL:

To email multiple designations, separate them with commas as in BL,LA,IN:

Always complete your target designation(s) with a colon. (After the colon, put any additional descriptive text you wish.)

To verify that your email was delivered, check the response emailed from listserv. It will begin "Output of job" and will include a count of recipients. This is the only reliable way to check on delivery.

What is MD2B-EVENTS-L and why do I get so much mail from it?

Events Listserv with Enhanced Targeting

MD2B-EVENTS-L is the replacement for MS-EVENTS-L. With this change, the events listserv now allows targeting by campus designation (BL,EV,FW,NW,LA,MU,SB,TH,IN,CN—see details above) and also class year designation (MS1, MS2, MS3, MS4).

Please note that the target designations on the subject line of an email are additive. If you specify IN, MS1: your email will go to all Indy students plus first year students at all campuses, with no duplications.

MD2B-EVENTS-L is intended primarily to disseminate information about events sponsored by IUSM student organizations. If you are an officer of a student organization and would like sending access to the listserv, email mgray@iupui.edu.

If you would like to receive a daily digest of MD2B-EVENTS-L rather than individual emails or to receive no mail from this listserv, see the Events Options page for instructions.

If you would like to receive additional email for designations other than your current campus and class year, you can do so by subscribing directly to the super-list and selecting those "topics." (You are currently subscribed to a class list which feeds into the super-list.) For instructions, see the Events Options page.

Alternatively, you may choose to subscribe to the digest, which automatically includes all topics.

If you do not wish to receive mail from this listserv, you may select the NOMAIL options. See the Events Options page for instructions.

How can I advertise items for sale to the student body?

Email MD4Sale-L to post items for sale. This list is also useful for posting housing/roommate searches and shift trades. (In order to email this listserv, you must be a subscriber.)

How can I unsubscribe from optional School of Medicine listservs?

See Listserv Web Interface for instructions.

Do not unsubscribe from your class listserv (MS-20XX-L) or MD2B! Membership in these lists is required for academic and administrative communications.

How can I see listserv emails that I may have missed?

See Listserv Web Interface for instructions.

How can I get an RSS feed of a listserv?

You can sign up on the list's archive page. See Listserv Web Interface for instructions. (Please note that, in order to access the archive, you must be subscribed to the list. This is due to the fact that our IUSM listservs are private.)

How can I subscribe to optional School of Medicine listservs?

Send an email in this format to listserv@listserv.iupui.edu:

Subscribe ms-events-l John Q Smith

(Listserv will derive your email address from your sending address.) You will receive a confirmation email. Reply to it as requested. (Once you are a subscriber, you can post to ms-events-l. The same is true of ms4sale-l and most, if not all, of the other optional listservs.)
