Q. When is the deadline for students in the Class of 2010 to have the PDA purchased?
A. You will need them at the start of your 3rd year rotations, although it would be helpful to be familiar with the hardware before things get busy in June. You will not need the device for the training event.
Q. I read through the supported devices and noticed that Apple's iPhone is not listed. Is there any chance that the iPhone will work?
A. The iPhone will not work with the CERTTS system due to the need to gather signatures. You will be able to use the iPhone in your 4th year, since you can complete web forms on Angel which need no signature.
Q. Will the PDA that I am using this year work next year.
A. Palm OS-based PDAs will continue to work for the foreseeable future and we are quite experienced with supporting them. We are not phasing out Palms, we are just adding support for Windows Mobile devices.
Q. Does the operating system have to be Windows OS 5, or can it be an earlier OS?
A. Windows devices need to be Windows Mobile 2003 or greater.
Q. What is the earliest Palm OS supported?
A. Palm devices need to be Palm OS 4 or greater.
Q. Is the Palm LifeDrive compatible with CERTTS?
A. The Palm LifeDrive will work with the CERTTS system. For this device, it is important to install the latest firmware release from the Palm site. Wilfredo Portillo in the Medical Library room 102 can help you with this if you need help.
Q. Will my cellular phone provider charge me for connecting with my PDA?
A. When a device includes WiFi, there is no charge for using it since it's basically a radio. You would be able to use the IU Wireless network, or any other WiFi network with this device, such as a wireless router at home, or at coffee shops.
Q. Where can I find a list of supported PDAs for 2008-2009?
A. http://msa.iusm.iu.edu/Technology/pdaspec20082009.asp
Q. Where can I find a list of supported PDAs for 2007-2008?
A. http://msa.iusm.iu.edu/Technology/pdaspec20072008.asp
Q. Can I use a Blackberry device for the CERTTS programs?
A. A smart phone is a good idea, but at this time, the CERTTS system will not function on BlackBerry devices. Compatible smart phones are listed at http://msa.iusm.iu.edu/Technology/pdaspec20082009.asp.
Q. Is the HP iPAQ 111 the same as the 110? I am having trouble finding the 110 online, but the 111 is easy to come by. Will the HP iPAQ 111 PDA be fine for next year?
A. There is no real difference between the HP 110 and HP 111. Same product, different number. All of the reviews we have read state that the HP 110 Classic is the business model, whereas the HP 111 Classic is the consumer model.
Q. Once I buy my PDA (will be purchasing HP iPAQ 110 classic), what do I do? Which programs are required, which are recommended, and how do I get them?
Q. Where can I find other PDA information online?
A. Login to ANGEL go to the CERTTS Clinical Encounters Real-Time Tracking group. Click the Content tab. Here you will find several links, including the following:
